Kathy's spiritual meanderings...

Right now I am sitting at the dining room table in my son's condo in Ottawa.  I have had a lovely couple of days doing my best to unwind after a very, very busy Easter weekend.  Yesterday I wandered for a couple of hours at the National Art Gallery.  I especially enjoyed looking at VanGogh's paintings.  One of them was a picture of the lilacs he saw outside of his window when he was hospitalized in an insane asylum.  Focussing on capturing the details of the color and form of the flowers is part of what helped him with his own path to recovery.  Here is one of his quotes:  "To do good work one must eat well, be well housed, have one's fling from time to time, smoke one's pipe, and drink one's coffee in peace."  I have not had a "fling", nor have I smoked a pipe - honest!  However, there is something about drinking my coffee in the peace of my son's home that has been very good for my soul.  Later today we head to Toronto for festivities and learning opportunities with my aunt Lois, who is turning 90.  It will be good for me to immerse myself for a time with my extended family - many of whom I have not seen for a very long time.  Back in Regina, our Sunset community will be gathering to worship on Sunday, being led in worship by CaraGay Driscoll and our hospital chaplain, Val Cottrill.  Once I get back to the City, it will be full speed ahead into the many activities we have planned for the Spring season.  Hopefully I (& you!) will remember to sit and drink our coffee in peace while we contemplate the beauty of the flowers around us!  It is that sitting in peace that will sustain us for the busy pace of whatever it is that lies ahead for the next few weeks.
