Kathy's Spiritual Meanderings...

Yesterday I had the extreme honor of commending Ev Werner into God's care.  It is such holy ground to be at the cemetery and watch as the casket is slowly lowered into the ground - or at least partially lowered.  We felt the warmth of the sun and the wind on our faces as we stood there in the sheer still silence to bid our final farewell to a much beloved woman.  I repeated the age-old words that there is nothing in the heights or the depths, nothing in what was or what's to come, nothing in life or in death that can separate us from the Spirit of Love - a love that will strengthen us to keep on keeping on, even in the face of death.  Tomorrow we have occasion to celebrate a different part of the life cycle.  I will be baptising Wynn, who is 2, and his brother Sullivan, who is just a few weeks old. I will be inviting their parents to annoint the children with oil, an age-old ritual that reminds us that we are profoundly and deeply loved - a reminder of who we are and whose we are.  Death & birth - both part of every day life - both rooted in that abiding Love that we yearn for in our daily living.  As we continue to move our way through this Victoria Day weekend, where are we experiencing the reality of that Love - in our conversations?  in the warmth of the sun?  in the occasions where we break bread with family or friends?  Take a moment to be still - and to give thanks for Love, wherever and however you are able to experience it this weekend.
