Three weeks

Two weeks ago I was in the process transforming an empty work space into a comfortably, welcoming office space.  As I was unpacking, I realized that each book, each candle, each piece of paper and little knick knack had a story, had a connection with the years I have spent in ministry.  One accumulates a lot of stuff in 15 years of ministry.  These things, though, are part of my ministry, and tell the story of who I am as minister, and who the churches I have worked with are.  I can't take the people with me, but their connection to me remains in the things that surround me.

Now, I get the priviledge and honour of creating new memories and ministry with you, the people of Sunset United.  Excitement abounds!  The welcome has been incredible... like returning home.  From the welcome the youth group gave my daughter, to the inclusion of my son in the Sunday School to the hugs offered to my husband, we have all experieneced a grand welcome.

Over the next few months I will spend time getting to know the congregation, how things happen, who is on what committee etc.  I will work into the rhythm  and ritual of Sunset.  Once we have sort of settled into a routine, we might start to talk about what's working and what's not working in our worship and ministry.  After a certain amount of time we might talk about what changes might need to be made in how we do things.

But that's in the future yet.  For now, let's get to know each other.  Don't be afraid to drop by the church to say "hi" or give me a call to set up time for tea/coffee.  Send me a text or an email or stop me after church.  I am very much looking forward to getting to know you for the first time, or again.

So friends, let's be open to the Spirit moving in and around us.  It's an exciting time, and that Holy Mystery is all tied up in it!!

Blessings and peace.
