worship in an age of COVID-19

Greetings friends,

We are in an interesting time, not only for the church but for the nation as a whole.  Every aspect of our lives have been touched by the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic, some in more subtle ways than others.  For Sunset, the affect has been major.  In an effort to slow the progression of the virus and to protect the vulnerable in our community, the hard decision to suspend worship and all church activities was made.  Truth be told, it feels a bit like a Lenten journey of sorts... out in the wildnerness, on our own, with lots of questions and not a lot of answers.  There's temptation to give in and just live life as usual, to go out and spend time in groups or with a small gathering of friends...and yet, we know we shouldn't.  It's tough all around.

Being without our faith community in person is hard as well.  This is the safe place to be, where we know we are supported and loved, and where we are reminded of the continual love and presence of God in all the ups and downs of life.  How are we to get that if church is cancelled?  Well, we are working on that.  A lot of what we are doing will require online access. There will be posts here on the blog.  Our facebook site (www.facebook.com/sunsetunited) will have video posts and such, email will be going out with updates etc.  We are looking at ways to offer activities for families, children and adults.  This is a new way to doing things for us, so bear with us.

Last week's service will be on the website soon.  If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact the office or Rev. Tricia

Be gentle with yourself.  Give yourself the space to simply be present to your emotions, while trying to maintain a calm, reason based response to all that is going on.  Stick with information from reputable resources.  Pray.  Call a friend.  Sit in the sun (away from others).

Surrounding you in love,

Tricia
