Tricia's Thoughts...

Lent 1 - Burying the Alleluias

Lent 1 - Burying the Alleluias

This is the first Sunday of Lent. I did part of this activity last year and wanted to bring it back.

In many churches, Lent becomes a period of austerity, even when you look around the space. Images are covered and even alleluias are silenced.

I thought we could do something similar to that: burying alleluias. Now I don't mean that you should try to dig a hole in the frozen ground, just look at the idea of hiding away these alleluias for the rest of Lent. So when we get though the difficult moments, we can open up that

Fifth Sunday After Epiphany

Fifth Sunday After Epiphany

I am sorry to be late this week but at least I made it before the end of Sunday!

I hope that you have been able to stay warm this weekend. I have been spending my days with my cat, inside.

This week's image brings up some interesting ideas: unsearchable. When we live in a world where we all use that handy search bar nearly every day. But to have something that is unsearchable. It won't just pop up with a thousand hits. And that is difficult to put into words. How can we explain what we do not know?

Fourth Sunday After Epiphany

Fourth Sunday After Epiphany

This is the last week of January, wow it has gone by quickly. Some good news, some not-so good news but we are still moving along.

I am looking at the image for this week and the words that pop out right away are "teaching" and "astounded". I am astounded with all who are teaching right now. They have had to find a new way to do something that was already difficult at the best of times.

I am taking a couple classes right now and it is hard for me to get motivated and they are each only once

Fishing for people

Fishing for people

This is the third Sunday after Epiphany. Last week was not the best for me but this week I am feeling much more comfortable. And this story is a favourite of mine.

Most of us can imagine fishing. It is something that we can easily see. But when we talk about fishing for people, it is something different but I can see the similarities.

When we fish, we want only the biggest. It has to feed and sustain us. For Jesus, he didn't care about their size. They could have been anyone but they were the ones who chose to

It's sometime after Epiphany

It's sometime after Epiphany

The weeks are already blending together and we have spoken about the next season: Lent....shh, not yet! Just stop, stop and think.

We are looking at a time between two powerful seasons, just a few weeks and it feels like a time of uncertainty. We just left the celebration of a birth, a new time. People have come together (maybe late, maybe just for a short time, maybe without touching) and now what? The child is here, now what?

It just feels like a time of the unknown. We are being transformed and being prepared for something, but what? Remember

Baptism of Jesus

Baptism of Jesus

This is usually the week that we celebrate the baptism of Jesus, full of symbolism and characters.

When it talks of a dove descending, I imagine the image of a single feather, floating down to the ground. Maybe you haven't seen that yourself but think about a leaf falling off a tree. It seems to fall unevenly and we have trouble predicting where it will land.

The Spirit came down and maybe called a dove because that was how it was seen by people. It could have been like a feather, falling without knowing where it would land.

Epiphany

Epiphany

An epiphnay star....the symbol that we mostly associate with Christmas. It is after a long, long journey that the wise ones came to see Jesus, the not-so new born King. Some estimates place this journey at 2 years!

I was looking online this week and found that the longest distance that one could travel by foot on Earth would take about that long, walking from the tip of Africa to the North of Siberia. Could you imagine? I have trouble just imagining walking to work and that might just be a few hours!

So we celebrate the end of this

2nd Sunday After Christmas

2nd Sunday After Christmas

This is the 2nd Sunday after Christmas. It is generally when we talk about Epiphany and the arrival of the wise ones or magi.

We talk of being overwhelmed with feelings. At last, an arrival, or the end of a journey. We have gone so far and finally have reached the destination. We might not know what will happen but we are finally at that place we were seeking.

It is a new year and we expect new things to happen and change. It might not be right away and it might not be what we expect. But something will

1st Sunday After Christmas

1st Sunday After Christmas

I know the First Sunday After Christmas was nearly a week ago now....it was a tough time for me. Today was the first day I felt awake and ready for the time.

I read the words on this page and smiled. I was able to take some time to look up at the sky this year. I searched for the bright star on the 21st, I watched as the moon shone on the snow, and I counted the lights I could see from my window.

Praise God in every way and in every place you can. It might not be

I will be posting the bulletin for Sunday service early in the week to give you time to get ready for worship on Sunday (this week's bulletin is already up, so go and check it out).

I am looking at ways to make the website more accessible to people and with more frequent updates to keep it up to date. With that in mind, if anyone has any photos

Sunday School Resources

Hello from Michelle!

I have been working at the RCMP the past week to finish off a few things before we are sent home during this time.

I am missing all the wonderful kids who come each week to Sunday School and I can't wait to get out the toys and crafts stuff at church again.

I am going to post at least once a week here and a couple times on the Facebook page with some ideas of stuff to do which will keep us connected, even when we are physically distancing.

The resource I am highlighting this week
