May 30 - Sagwa (forgiveness)

May 30 - Sagwa (forgiveness)

It's the end of May now and the sun has started to come out with more frequency; I hope you are getting the chance to go outside after being indoors for so long.

In May, we honour Asian Heritage and today's activity comes from a Korean tradition. The word "apology" in Korean is sa-gwa but sa-gwa has another meaning, "apple". In Korea, schools celebrate Apple Day. On this day, you think of friends you have not been getting along with. Then you visit them (from a safe distance) to say sorry and fix your broken friendships.

It is not an embarrassing thing to say you're sorry; you need great bravery to do it. And then you need to conitnue that courage to build good relationships with your friends.

I found an activity that uses apples as stamps! It looks like so much fun! Cut an apple apart, and dip it in paint. Press it hard on paper to leave an impression of an apple. You can also make letters out of sponges or other fruits/vegetables for letters. Make cards for people you haven't seen in a while. Let them know you are thinking of them.

Or if you really want to celebrate apple day, make something with apples to share with people! I'm sure you can think of many items that have apples.

Forgiveness can be hard and it can hurt sometimes but it is better to let those feelings out and listen to what people have to say. It is not the end of the story, it is only the beginning of the next chapter.

Peace and love and sa-gwa!
