February 6, 2022

This is the first week we are honouring Black History Month. This can be a difficult time for people as we realize the hurt that has happened and the people that have been ignored throughout history.

I woke up this morning and wanted to do something different. I turned on Netflix and as I scrolled through my usual shows about love, cooking, or travel, I came across a film called "Harriet". It celebrates the life of Harriet (Araminta) Tubman who escaped slavery and helped hundreds of others escape. It is not an easy show to watch and it brings up so many feelings.

I started to think: what would I have done? Would I have been able to hide someone in my house when I could be arrested or, worse, killed? Would I have been able to stand by and watch as people were sold and traded?

The answer might never be known. We can all say we would do it now but we don't really know. I hope I would have been able to do something and I hope that I would have not remained silent.

Do not remain silent now! Speak up when you see something that is wrong. So not ignore people who are being hurt. Don't just stand by and look away.

God's dream is that we can all live together in peace and harmony. Be a part of that dream.

Peace and love,

Michelle
